Daily Bread Food Pantry at Horne Memorial UMC
Daily Bread Food Pantry is sponsoring Take a Sack & Bring It Back!
During October, we invite you to pick up a brown grocery bag/sack from the pile in the Narthex or outside the Fellowship Hall door. Attached to each sack is a wish list of non-perishable food items to be packed and delivered to families in need. Take a sack, fill it with some of the suggested items and bring it back! You may leave your donations any time in the Missions collection area on the back porch of the Lassiter House.
This year alone, food pantry volunteers have packed and delivered a total of 148 food boxes for families with children in three of our local Elementary Schools: an increase of 55 boxes over last year’s numbers. We are now preparing boxes for delivery to the schools ahead of Thanksgiving and Christmas breaks. You can help us support these families when you Take a Sack and Bring it Back!
Alternatively, you may wish to make a donation of $20 for the purchase of a frozen turkey to accompany each of the food boxes. Checks payable to Horne Memorial UMC, designated on the memo line for the Food Pantry, may be placed in the offering plate on Sundays.
Thank you for your generosity!

Horne Memorial Hearts of Hope
Ministry Leader Pam Ruivo, 919-417-7587
Hearts of Hope provides clothing & household goods to those in need in Johnston County and surrounding areas. The vision for Hearts of Hope was developed over time by the many HMUMC volunteers serving with Hope Chest in Selma. This group began identifying needs throughout Johnston County and were passionate about establishing a larger-scale ministry at HMUMC to benefit the broader community and surrounding areas.
Just a few of the people and groups that are being assisted are children & families in the Johnston County School District, JC Military Missions in Action, Clayton Senior Center, Clayton Rehab & Nursing Facility residents, Harbor House Domestic Violence Shelter, Johnston County Agriculture Extension Services, local hospitals, and the homeless.

Horne Quilt Ministry’s mission is to provide quilts for children taken with their family to Harbor Shelter, a domestic violence support center in Johnston County or other facilities that are in need of children’s prayer quilts. The quilts are made by members of the group who want to share love, comfort, hope, and prayers with those children finding themselves in midst of severe family crisis.
Clayton Area Ministries
Organized primarily as a local food pantry, CAM also assists those in need with emergency utility bills.
To help: donate canned goods or make a donation earmarked for CAM. Collection containers are located in Horne. CAM is located and food can be dropped off there during operation hours. Horne members also volunteer time to sort and hand out food during operating hours. CAM has a continual need for peanut butter, canned meats, pasta, and canned fruit.

Light House Christian Fellowship
Established in 2000, Lighthouse Christian Ministry is a grass-roots community outreach ministry located in Four Oaks that annually serves between 19,000 – 25,000 under-resourced Johnston County residents.
The ministry provides a food pantry, Soup Kitchen, clothing distribution program, community-based Bible studies, job training programs, health and nutrition classes, and tutoring and literacy training. Services are regularly provided to veterans and the disabled by completing small home repairs at no charge and building ramps for the handicapped.
Offering spiritual support to the under-resourced and disenfranchised is a priority for this ministry in all of the services it provides. Weekly church services are held and pastoral counseling is offered for those struggling. To date, the ministry has assisted over 300 under-resourced families in paying funeral costs of a loved one.
The ministry is instrumental in assisting other area churches and groups in starting their own food pantries and training volunteers. It continues to lead an effort in the faith community to improve and increase outreach efforts throughout Johnston County.
