Rise Against Hunger
Every day, 30,000 people die from starvation. Rise Against Hunger is a non-profit, international relief organization committed to ending hunger worldwide. Headquartered in Raleigh, it provides direct emergency food and life-saving aid to crisis areas around the world.
Operation Sharehouse was created to alleviate a slow response time in the event of an emergency overseas. It aims to build at least one warehouse on each of the major continents, with stocks at each location never falling below five to ten million servings of food.
Volunteers package food that consists of dehydrated, fortified rice-soy meals containing over 20 vitamins and minerals especially formulated for the malnourished. The meals are vacuumed-sealed in bags 3 millimeters thick and can be stored in Rise Against Hunger warehouses for 3+ years.
To help: Volunteer at the Operation Sharehouse facility on Mondays or Wednesdays from 4 pm to 8 pm, or Saturdays from 10 am to 4 pm. Groups of 10+ can call to schedule a special appointment. To learn more, call 919-839-0689 or visit http://www.riseagainsthunger.org/.
Special donations you want to make to Rise Against Hunger can be made by check to Horne Memorial noting Rise Against Hunger in the memo section. We will rejoice together as God multiplies the works of our hands in service to other.
