Youth Overview

Youth at Horne is a place where 6th- 12th graders are welcomed! Youth Group is a supporting community whose goal is to encourage all to find out who God is and how we can engage in a life centered around God’s goodness!

Weekly youth is conducted as follows: announcements, whole group message, break out groups, closing reflection, and prayer

In addition to weekly meetings, we have monthly outings and trips centered around service, recreation, and fellowship!

Youth Fall Retreat at Camp Rockfish – Friday, 11/6 to Sunday, 11/8 2026

Our Youth Group will travel to Camp Rockfish for a Fall Retreat in November. This will be a weekend of fellowship and fun for our Group. We will enjoy all of Camp Rockfish’s activities. The cost of this retreat is $180, which includes two nights lodging, all meals, Camp activities, and transportation. Please make your check out to ‘Horne UMC’ and note ‘Youth Fall Retreat’ & ‘your youth’s name’ on the check memo line. We will meet in the parking lot behind the church at 4:30 pm on Friday, November 6 to load up and leave. We will return to the church parking lot at 1:00 pm on Sunday, November 8. Packing List:

• Casual clothes for the weekend (absolutely no political or offensive clothing of any kind)

• Toiletries

• Bath towel

• Refillable water bottle to use at Camp all weekend

• Bring a sleeping bag/sheets/blanket and pillow as we will be sleeping in cabins with bunk beds with mattresses

Christmas Toy Giveaway – Saturday, December 5, 2026 – 9:00 am to 11:00 am

Our Youth Group is collecting new and gently used toys, books, and games to give away for Christmas (Horne’s ‘Hearts of Hope Ministry’ is collecting all clothing items). Our Youth will assist parents as they select items for their families in the Fellowship Hall. This is an awesome service in our community. I hope all our youth will be part of this event. Please drop off donation items on the screened back porch of the Lassiter House. Youth should be at church by 8:30 am Saturday morning to help set-up and stay until 12:00 noon to help clean up.

Youth Ski Trip – Friday, January 8 to Sunday, January 10, 2027

Our Youth Group will travel to Sugar Mountain for a ski trip in January. We will stay in a large house at Sugar Mountain and ski on Saturday. The cost of this trip is $200, which includes two nights lodging, all meals, ski rentals (including helmet), ski lift ticket, and transportation. We will meet in the parking lot behind the church at 4:30 pm on Friday, January 8 to load up and leave and we will return to the church parking at 2:00 pm on Sunday, January 10. Youth Mission Trip with City Service Mission (CSM) – Sunday, June 13 to Saturday June 19, 2027

Our Youth Group will go to Washington DC to work with City Service Mission (CSM) in 2027. We will spend the week working with a variety of existing urban ministries in Washington, DC. The cost of this trip is $525, which includes lodging, all meals, activities, and transportation. We will meet in the parking lot behind the church at 7:00 am on Sunday, June 13 to load up and leave. We will return to the church parking lot at 3:00 pm on Saturday, June 19. • T-shirts (no cut-off t-shirts, no tank tops, no spaghetti straps, etc.)

• Long pants or shorts (no short shorts, no rips, tears, etc.)

• Swim suit

• Bath towel

• Money for food on the way there, and on the return trip home, and any other snacks

• Everyone will need their own bedding: sleeping bag, pillow, cot or air mattress, as we will be sleeping in a large house
